How much time will I need to dedicate to this and what input will be required?

September 26, 2020 by Nathan

Your involvement and input will be vital to the success of the project.

Client input

That being said, we appreciate you have a business to run, so we try to keep our demands on you to the absolute minimum.

First up we’ll need an hour of your time for the consultation.

Then we’ll need you to provide access to the required data after the consultation so we can conduct our research and write a proposal.

You’ll need to read the proposal and you have the option of a follow up consultation to discuss it.

Once we have your approval to go ahead, and the access we require, we need you to complete our Getting Started form so we can set up the project and your reports.

In this form we’ll ask you for a Google account email address and ask you to approve of the entire list of keywords we’re planning to track – and the four priority keywords for the first 12 weeks, and competitors for each.

Once we’ve set up your project and reports we can get started.

Your involvement from here is dependent on the starting point for the project and the package you’ve selected, as outlined below.

It’s worth saying that I firmly believe any profiles or reporting associated with your business or website should be created in your name, using your details. Once set up I will advise how you can provide access to me.

The first three months (Set up & One-off optimisation)

Profile optimisation

If you don’t have a Google My Business and/or Bing Places For Business profile, then you may need to be involved in the profile creation verification process. If a profiles exist but you don’t have access, you will need to help claim the profiles.

I will need you to review how I plan to populate or edit fields in your Google and/or Bing profiles. I’ll also need you to supply photos to upload, and will ask you specifically about how you’d like to utilise features like Posts and Q&A, and to potentially help set up features like Messaging if they are of interest.

I will monitor your profiles at the agreed frequency, and will make suggestions from time-to-time, and will need you to either review any suggestions for changes, or respond to any questions, which might be regarding seasonal opening hours for example.

Competitor profile monitoring & reporting

I will send you a competitor report at the end of the three month period highlighting what I have done to either level the playing field or improve your performance against the agreed competitors for each of the four keywords being targeted in this period.

Your feedback on this document would be welcomed if you intend to extend your involvement beyond the three month period.

Citations management

You may need to be involved either setting up, providing access to, or possibly even updating citations online yourself. Typically there is a strict verification process for creating business listings, which often necessitate the business owner to approve by email or telephone. I will manage the process and make suggestions, but it’s highly likely you’ll need to be involved along the way.

Customer review management

I will ensure you’re set up to receive notifications when customers leave a review about your business on your Google or Bing profiles. I would suggest that you, or a member of your staff, reply to the reviews where necessary, and will send you reminders to do so.

Keyword research & rank tracking

I will send you a report at the end of each week, highlighting anything significant. I would encourage you to check these highlights and respond as necessary at your earlier convenience.

Beyond the first three months

Profile optimisation

If you are looking for further support and management of your local presence beyond the first three months, then you’ll need to dedicate some time to supplying content should you intend to follow our recommendation to utilise features such as photos/videos and Posts on your Google My Business profile.

If you have Q&A and Messaging set up, then you’ll need to monitor both and respond quickly to both.

I’ll continue to supply profile reviews at the agreed frequency, which you may need to respond to periodically.

Customer review management

We recommend you actively ask your customers for reviews on your Google profile. After the first three month period we will look to support you in this activity. This will necessitate regular contact to establish who we should approach each month.

Quarterly reviews

I like to meet with my clients every quarter to discuss the work that’s been completed and the plan for the next 12 weeks. Ideally these meetings will be face-to-face, at your location or mine, but can be carried out online if it’s not feasible to meet in person.
